The Open Harrier project
Inspired by the OpenHornet project
The primary goal of the Open Harrier project is to create an open source design for building a full scale Harrier cockpit for simulation use. While the main initial focus is on AV-8B and its variants, it is possible that other Harriers (AV-8A) may come into fruition in the future.
A secondary goal is to share and collaborate on Harrier information for the betterment of our community.
If you would like to become part of the OpenHarrier community, you can find us on Facebook or Discord:

On discord, search for “OpenHarrier”.
The open source fils are available here:
- Modular design, allowing you to build the ejection seat, the main console, and the the left and right consoles separately.
- Choose between the Stencel SJU-4A or the Martin Baker Mk10 (not yet available) ejection seats.
- Leverages wood, 3D printed parts, and either laser cut and engraved or CNC panels.
- Accurate layout of panel components on side consoles, allowing for the real panels to be mixed with made panels.
- Optionally supports the use of real Dzus rails installed in the frame, or simulated Dzus rails that are 3d printed.
- Leverages only free and open source software to create, edit, and view the design files, such as FreeCAD and KiCAD. No software licenses needed!
- Utilizes Arduino’s for most electronics
